You don’t have to earn God’s love.
Slow down and sit with that for a second. If you’re honest, you probably treat love like a paycheck. Be good, get loved. Mess up, lose it. And somewhere in the back of your mind there’s this fear that one really bad day could wreck everything between you and God.
But that is not how grace works.
Grace Is a Gift, Not a Paycheck
Ephesians 2:8-9 says it plainly: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”
A gift. Not a paycheck. You don’t earn a gift. You receive it.
You Can’t Earn God’s Love
Romans 5:8 puts it even sharper: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” He didn’t wait for you to clean up first. He didn’t wait for the better version of you. He came for you right in the middle of the mess.
So why do we keep striving? Because the world taught us that everything has a price. But the Kingdom runs on a different economy. His love was settled before you did a single thing right, and it won’t be shaken by a single thing you do wrong.
Stop Keeping Score
That doesn’t mean how you live doesn’t matter. It means your standing with Him was never up for debate. You’re not working to be loved. You’re loved, so you get to live free.
Today, put down the measuring stick. Stop keeping score. You can’t earn God’s love, and the good news is you can’t lose it either. The cross already settled the account.
You are fully known. You are fully loved. And there is nothing you can do to make Him love you more, or less.
Make it personal today. Pray this with me: “God, I stop striving. I receive Your love as the gift it is. Teach my heart to rest in grace. Amen.”
Rest in that.
